Fun Run

When we moved to our new town, a mere 16 months ago, we knew we had much to learn about the booming metropolis that we now called home.  We had to find the grocery store, the perfect pediatrician, the best preschool, and a good dry cleaners.  Not much later, we also discovered that we must find out about "Fun Run".  What is "Fun Run"?  And why do I keep hearing about it?

The answer to the riddle eluded me throughout our first summer here, and I had the sinking feeling that we were missing out on something.  Something big.  I promised myself that next year would be our year.  We too would be a part of "Fun Run".  Whatever that was.

Well "Fun Run", as it turns out, is the nickname given to the must-attend event(s) of the summer.  A local running club hosts a running night for kids every Friday evening at a local high school's outdoor track.  Kids can register, receive a t-shirt, and arrive on race nights ready to run.  And have fun.  Thus, "Fun Run".

They race in age groups, everyone receives a ribbon after the race, and at the end of the year, every particiapnt receives a trophy.

Let me just say, we loved it!  The kids were excited to attend week after week, and each one of them ran with their respective age groups without trepidation.  I was so proud that the kids were able to go out there and run their little hearts out, with no concern for being first or last ... the focus was simply on finishing your lap, seeing friends, and soaking up the cheers of the crowd.  Oh, and the orange punch and cookies that were given out as a snack at the end of the race.  Can't forget that!

So, all in all, our first experience with Fun Run was awesome, and you can bet that we'll be there next year, ready to race!
