Today the world was abuzz with news of an upcoming snow storm.
It happens about once a year. A system begins out on the west coast and the meteorologists predict epic snow will hit the Midwest in 3-4 days. So, for 3-4 days, we sit and watch the weather reports and wonder what will be.
Not wanting to buy into the hype, but not wanting to ignore it either, I made today a day of preparation.
Jack and I hit the grocery store early in the morning to do our weekly shopping. Bread, milk, eggs, and the basic staples. I might have purchased some chocolate and extra wine, just in case.
We bought ice melting salt, and made sure there was plenty of gas for the snow blower.
We collected a big 'ol pile of wood next to the back door for our fireplace.
We hit every Redbox in town, picking up the movies that we wanted to watch, in case we were snowed in for a few days.
We hit the library and picked out a giant bag of books to keep us busy at home.
And then we went home, and we waited.
The kids went to sleep with visions of snow days dancing in their heads.
And at about 9pm, their dream came true ... we got the call that school had been cancelled for the following day ... before even one snowflake fell!
