And then we went bowling ...

As darkness fell on our day of adventure, we decided to take the kids bowling.

You may notice that they all had a slightly manic expression on their faces at this point.
You may also notice that this post along with the ones below about the Dixie Diner and the County History Museum are all from the same day.

It seems we have a lot left on our list of "things to do this summer", and precious little time left ... we had to double triple up at this point.

So bowling it was.

Jenna has gotten pretty good at handling the ball.  She still doesn't feel confident enough to actually use the finger holes to throw the ball, but she's good at side-arming it and releasing it relatively close to the ground.

Jack, on the other hand, throws the ball like a grenade which makes a thunderous crashing noise when it hits the alley.  Combined with the ever present noise of the buzzer going off indicating he stepped on the foul line.  Added to the groans of his mom and dad and the bowling alley attendant when they need to go and retrieve a ball that gets stuck 1/2 way down the alley due to lack of momentum, or the ball that randomly ends up on the lane next to ours after a particularly wild pitch release.

Kara is really cute to watch.  Every time she releases the ball she stands there with her arms up on top of her head, awaiting her results.  She turns around with either a slap on the forehead when she hits the gutter or a little jump and skip when she manages to knock more than one or two pins down.  She said that this was the best part of her day and that she LOVES bowling.

Everyone is very attuned to the score board above and who is in the lead.  This time it was daddy as the winner, followed by mommy with an impressive showing in 2nd place (quite a come-back from last time when she was beat by Jenna), Jack and Jenna tying for 3rd, and Jenna rounding up the bunch (but still glowing from last time when she beat mommy and tied with daddy).

We don't do it often, but bowling is always a good time.  Maybe not so much for the people working at the bowling alley while we're there, but for us it is : )
